What's a Flash Jam?
A flash mob and a game jam combined! Flash Jams are bite sized game jams that happen by surprise! For the second year in a row, we’ve run Flash Jams throughout the IndieCade Festival, making dozens of games using everything from bouncing balls to glowsticks!
How does it work?
- Get some objects for people to make games with! Balls, playing cards, paper and crayons, frisbees, bubbles, balloons, whistles! Almost anything can be used to make some games!
- Let folks know the jam is about to start! Have them form up teams and get ready!
- Make games!
Run a Flash Jam with a time limit, or just keep it rolling! Have folks share the games they made with each other and get the rules written down so others can join in the fun later!
Some people come to create, some come to play, and others just like watching the flurry of activity! There’s no wrong way to participate!
What kind of games can people make?
A better question is “What kind of games can’t they make?” As long as nobody’s getting hurt, and nothing’s getting broken that shouldn’t be getting broken, jammers are free to make whatever they want!
We provide a bunch of fun objects for folks to build their games around, but they’re free to use whatever they want!
